Trover Photo App

Welcome to Trover

Trover is a beautiful new travel photography app that lets you visually search for (and share) hidden gems while traveling. Use it to plan your next travel adventure.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Instagram. But after playing with the new photography app Trover for the past few weeks, I’ve found it’s just much more useful for travel. Why?

Before I travel somewhere new, I always use photography to help inspire my decision on where to go and what to do. I’ve discovered some of the coolest places and embarked on my craziest adventures because of browsing travel photography online.

That’s what Trover was made for. Sharing and searching for great travel ideas through photography.

Tips For Using Trover

First of all, not only can you search for photos by country or city using their intuitive interface, but it’s possible to scroll down from the initial destination to view even more beautiful photos nearby.

Places you may not have known existed.

Next, when you click on a photo to learn more about it, you actually learn more about it! The descriptions share very useful details about how to get there, when to visit, what to do, and more.

You can even post links in the description too (unlike Instagram), providing much more useful information for others. Like, say, if you have a full blog post about your experience.

Sharing your photos, or “discoveries” on Trover is easy too. You can upload images using their iPhone app (Android coming soon), or on your computer. Either interface is a pleasure to use.

Plan Adventures With Trover

I’ve been using Trover to help plan my trip to Turkey later this month. Whenever I’m browsing other people’s discoveries in Turkey, I’ll save my favorites to a list called “Secrets of Turkey”.

Then, once I’m actually there, I’ll visit the locations that I’ve saved on the list. It’s much more helpful than attempting to find things on Instagram, which is full of hashtag spammers posting photos that have absolutely nothing to do with the hashtags…

Even here in Madrid I’m learning about epic photo locations nearby.

I’ve been sharing some of my own favorite travel photos on Trover too, with useful tips about those locations.

Enter The #TroveOn Contest

To help promote their app, Trover is having a great contest, with some sweet prizes. I’m working with them as one of the judges. All you do is sign up for an account (if you don’t already have one), and start posting your own favorite “discoveries”, tagging them with #TroveOn at the start of the description.

Step #1: Sign up for Trover here or download the iPhone app
Step #2: Upload a photo (or 10) from your travels to Trover by May 1, 2014.
Step #3: Start your photo description with the hashtag #TroveOn

Awesome Prizes

  • Grand Prize = $750 Travel Voucher
  • Second Place = $500 Apple Gift Card
  • Third Place = $150 Amazon Gift Card

You could also win a $50 Amazon gift card every week on Twitter by tweeting your discoveries with the hashtag #TroveOn. You’ll automatically be entered for the weekly sweepstakes and a winner will be selected randomly.

Full rules for the #TroveOn competition can be found here.

Have fun, and good luck!

Trover seems to combine the best of Instagram, Foursquare, and Pinterest all rolled into one slick application. So if you want to be inspired by travelers sharing their secret spots from around the world, go check it out.

  1. First, great website. A suggestion for further improvement: why not include the published date at the top of your posts? On posts like this one, about a limited time contest/promotion, this would be especially useful, but even on general posts the published date is verrrry important in our rapidly changing world.

  2. Great website, enjoying your suggestions. will take a closer look as my wife and I spent the last 1.5 years traveling the US in our RV, then spent a month in Belize. We both have a hankering for spending 3 months or more traveling, with the idea of renting cheap places in say, Costa Rica, or France then exploring the area as we see fit. It would allow us the connectivity on the road my wife needs for her business, which is two days a week, and allow me to see if my writing skills are enough to make a go of it as well. I enjoy your writing and your style.. May see if we can adapt some of that to our lifestyle!

  3. I’m glad you are on here! I’ve recently signed up and love it already. Instagram has annoyed me from the start – it’s so limiting. Plus, you can actually use Trover on PC easily!

  4. I love Trover, and I agree that it’s much more versatile than Instagram, especially for someone like me who no longer has a company smartphone after leaving her job lol. I’m a girl so of course I still love Pinterest, but Trover is more targeted for travelers, which is awesome!

  5. Looks like a cool app, I downloaded it. It would be cool to have the ability to block people. I notice a Realtor in my area is already trying to ruin the local area by posting their listings.

  6. Nice! I just joined Trover yesterday actually and I’m really liking it so far! Will definitely be entering this competition! :)
