We woke up at 3am to start our little adventure. Two Americans, a New Zealander, a French woman, and a Swissman armed with flashlights and water were about to hike up a steep Guatemalan mountainside for 2 hours in the dark.
Today was Sunday, and I felt like wandering around Guatemala City. I joined a couple from Portland, Oregon for a walk down the main street in Zona 10 of the city.
I woke up early to head to the local market for some fruit. We needed some strawberries, melon, bananas, and basil for some fresh morning smoothies.
Four of us packed into a tiny car for a driving tour around Guatemala City. The rules for auto travel in the city are: lock your doors, roll the windows up half way, and don’t stop too close to the car in front of you.
The baggage claim conveyor belt finally stopped, and my backpack was nowhere to be seen. I had just arrived in Guatemala City (aka “Guate”) to start my official year around the world. But now I didn’t have any belongings.
