Daily Travel Photo: Inside an Active Volcano Crater

León Nicaragua Volcano Cerro Negro

Inside Volcano Cerro Negro

This is a shot from inside the active crater of Volcano Cerro Negro in Nicaragua. It’s the youngest volcano in Central America at only 161 years old. Yet it’s unusually active, having already erupted 23 times in it’s short lifetime. The last major eruption was in 1999.

This is the first picture I’ve posted of Cerro Negro. Central America has many volcanoes. :)

Wow, that blue sky is amazing. I can’t believe that volcano is only 160 years old! I had no idea that any volcano existed that is so young. Maybe this will come up on trivia sometime. :)
