This little “blue jeans” Strawberry Poison Dart Frog was climbing a gigantic tree I stopped to marvel at while hiking in the Tenorio Volcano National Park of Costa Rica. I had been wanting to spot one for weeks, and this was the first. Dart frogs come in many different colors and styles. I’ve always thought this kind looked the coolest, and was super happy to finally see one in the wild! :)

And I thought my mismatched socks were bad. I guess “It ain’t easy being red and blue” and living in a jungle. Green wouldn’t be so bad. Now if that were in North Carolina or Florida they’d be eating that little old frog. Poison or not. I’ve seen what they eat there. They put on a straw hat and a flowered shirt which apparently keeps them safe from being poisoned and they eat anything with claws, warts, lots of legs, antennas or bug eyes. It’s best if fried in oil or grease. It’s washed down with Lite beer, then they go back for more. You should visit there sometime. Take some pictures. I’m sure the rest of the world would like to see it.

Not enough meat on his blue legs I’m afraid… Maybe chocolate covered though? :)

That colouring is a pretty unmissable warning to potential predators.

Strange to have the words “strawberry” and “poison” together. Is it poisonous or does it taste like strawberries? Whichever, it is one beautiful frog.

@Matthew Karsten – I was thinking along the lines of:

Brightly colored and doesn’t move = Ah! It’s fruit inviting me to eat it.

Brightly colored and moves = Oh oh! This is what mum and dad warned me about.
