Yucatan Food Orden de Cochinita

Yucatan Food: Orden de Cochinita

I went out to lunch with a few travel friends in Merdia at a restaurant called “La Chaya Maya”. At the recommendation of the Mexican in the group, I ordered the “Orden de Cochinita”. It is a famous dish in the Yucatan. It consisted of shredded pork cooked in and served on banana leaves, some beans, and a bowl of pickled red onions. You also get fresh hand-made corn tortillas served in a gord. How do I know the tortillas were hand made? There was a Mayan woman making them right in front of you! The meal was delicious, and only cost $85 pesos ($6.50 US).

Funny how the Mexican food here doesn't look quite like the real Mexican food there!

I am amazed at how different it looks. How exciting to be there. I have been busy but hope to stay in touch.
