This funny animal is called a Coati (aka Snookum Bear). He spent 5 minutes digging up this colorful Halloween Crab right in front of me. Coati’s are part of the raccoon family, and you can find them all over the place in Corcovado National Park in Costa Rica. This one was part of a giant family of 30, all of them searching for breakfast in the jungle. I had to sneak up while they were busy hunting crabs to get this shot.

This coati is so cute!!. I didn’t know they like crabs. I saw a bunch of them (mother and babies) in Panama. They were eating fruits in a really funny way.

They are funny animals! The babies would see me coming close, and would run away along with the rest of the family. They got used to me after a while though, and I was able to get next to them.
Hey man, nice shot! The coatis here look quite different from the ones I saw in Iguazu Falls, Brazil/Argentina.

Munch, munch, great shot, Matthew.
Seeing his face from the front so his long nose isn’t showing, he reminds me of a sun bear. So I googled and learned that bears and racoons are cousins, taxonomically speaking.
